Dreamhost is a hosting provider based in the United States. I’ve been with them since March 2005. Excellent support even for newbies.
I have registered all my .com domain names with them and host my .in domains with them as well.

Dreamhost is the best for shared hosting….. I am a sysad and from my point of view control is what really would make me happy….. the next best thing to a dedicated host is a dreamhost Codemonster(it used to be code monster about till a year back when they scrapped all the plans and made one huge feature list on there 5th birthday)…… the differentiator between DH and other shared hosts is in terms of control….. you have a panel which, unlike the seriously shitty cpanel and Plesk, is very intuitive and “easy” for the non techie as well as the techie…. it’s got ssh access which really works…. when I say really works I mean “and HOW!!!”…. I can setup a complete new environment on my dreamhost shared account with a custom compiled php and start hosting stuff that even script authors swear cannot be run off shared hosts…. case in point clipshare, rayzz, dolphin, socialmedia, phpmotion….. they list a dedicated server as a prerequisite and I have around 500+ clients on dreamhost (collected over past 3 years) who run these and other scripts…… not that it wont work on bluehost or godaddy shared or hostmonster or whatever other shared account but just that with DH, it’s support system, the blog, forums and the panel you the user are in “CONTROL”….. while the rest just make you feel that you are in control billing you at $50 an hour if you just as much as want to move some files around…
Oh as for dedicated I swear by ThePlanet (www.theplanet.com)….. but that’s a different thread
