Logo for LinkedIn Power Women

It’s been a while since the discussion started for a logo for the LinkedIn Power Women YahooGroup. I’ve already done about six logo suggestions for the Group but there’s been no consensus so far! It can really get to be a stretch for the creative process especially when there are multiple decision-makers and innumerable ideas from various people.

Lesson learnt #1: Women are more difficult to please!

Here are versions of the logos I’ve done so far:

I’d created a separate page for the six logos and you’re welcome to view the logo designs there in three size versions.

I’m currently doing some more variations as the poll is currently in process – am doing it more for personal satisfaction than anything else – irritating, but I like a challenge. Here is the latest version of what Brana Lobel’s idea suggested:

And I’ll be updating if I get some more ideas in my very saturated head icon biggrin Logo for LinkedIn Power Women asidebrands Brand naming & Logo design by Naina – I’d love it if I get some suggestions from the readers!

UPDATE 1: November 01, 2005

The submissions have been closed so the new logo I designed isn’t going to be considered. But the ones above it are in the fray! I’m going to go vote for my favorite and will post the update as well as the winning logo [ whoever's that might be ]. The results should be up by November 4th Indian Standard Time.

Here’s wishing everyone around the world a very Happy Diwali!

Diwali is the festival of lights and the celebration of good winning over evil. Celebrated with much fervor in India, the Goddess of Wealth, Laxmi is welcomed into our homes by performing various Pujas and rituals. Not only is Diwali a celebration within families – a personal celebration, it is also a business celebration because of the aspect of the Goddess of Wealth being welcomed!

Lots of sweets and fireworks around the country.
One of the side effects being high sound levels during the evening and night and a thick layer of smog next morning. We’re celebrating by meeting up with friends and family – no fireworks.

Inspite of the three bomb blasts in New Delhi, Diwali is not going to be any different for those unaffected by the blasts. Even though we were expecting a quieter celebration, the noise outside our home right now signifies quite the opposite!

aside wishes all its clients, friends and partners a very Happy Diwali with happiness, prosperity, wealth and love. We’ve designed a Desktop Wallpaper for the occassion – click on the image below to be taken to the larger image with dimensions 1600×1200 pixels. For smaller screen resolutions, when setting the desktop for your screen, use the “stretch” option instead of the “tile” and “center” options – this will force-fit the desktop to your screen.

Price changes at aside

We’ve recently had so many client engagements that I’ve been literally forced to re-consider our pricing strategy. Till date, we’d been quoting prices based on the feedback received from fellow designers and were not following a definitive pattern. I generally asked the client what their budget was and based on that gave them a quote.

Now onwards, we will be following a standardized pattern [ as much as possible ]. Since design engagements have a ton of variables to consider – the number of hours to be dedicated as well as the price quotes, it is nearly impossible to include everything in the price list. But we now have some broad categories with separated components. For example there is Corporate Identity, which includes a logo, business card, letter head and envelope – we now have prices for the complete package as well as for separate elements of the package.

Hopefully, this will solve the ad hoc price problems and increase our client base even further!

I still have not managed the guts to publish a price list – besides, our philosophy is not to commoditize design – but eventually I hope to at least create and put up a small application that can function as a calculator for potential clients to feed in the variables and see the prices themselves.

If you’d like to find out more about the specific prices, please send me an e-mail – it will also help me further refine the prices if I have missed some design needs.

Naina’s Desktop

I love changing my Desktop’s Wallpaper whenever I get a chance. I also recently downloaded a copy of Konfabulator and am having fun with the various widgets! I have the mini What To Do widget [ nice glassy buttons ], the FabIcons widget [ which creates shortcuts to a specified Program or Folder using the icon you want - nice fade effects], the Mini-Weather widget [ which lets me view the weather of my own city and as many other places from around the world as I like ]. I also have the Devabulator widget that shows the latest, most popular wallpapers on Deviant Art and lets you download them by visiting that particular page in Deviant Art – more Desktop Wallpapers!

Finally, I have the Water8 widget, which lets me keep track of 8 glasses of water everyday [ which is a huge problem for me otherwise - I've tried color charts, Post-Its and phone reminders but this widget works the best!]
